PROVOKE PURPLE/SILVER SHAMPOO REVIEW

As many of you might already know I have gone a silvery blonde colour, this involved a few steps which I will cover in a post soon. If you have gone white blonde yourself you will know that getting rid of brassy tones involves a regular routine. One of the most recommended products for this is purple shampoo!

Purple shampoo works in blonde hair by using the violet pigments in the shampoo to neutralise any unwanted yellow tones. This year I decided to repurchase Provoke: Touch of Silver twice a week brightening shampoo when I went blonde this year. I remembered the brand from when I was 16 and went blonde for several months. I had found in the past that it was a fantastic toning shampoo.

First up I would like to point out that I adore the smell of this shampoo - it smells like Parma Violet sweets. The shampoo is quite watery in comparison to more expensive brands but I would say it is just as pigmented and a small amount goes a long way. I lather up my hair and leave it in for 5 minutes before rinsing it off and finishing with conditioner. When my hair was freshly bleached the shampoo performed fantastically and toned out the harsher yellow colours, However, if you leave the shampoo on for too long or use it more than twice a week there is a bit of purple build up. I personally quite like this look, but for those who strictly want blonde hair you might have to watch out for this.
This shampoo can be compared to other more expensive purple shampoos, such as Loreal Professional Silver Shampoo. My personal favourite at the moment is Fudge Clean Blonde Violet Shampoo as it is a little bit stronger in pigmentation than the Provoke shampoo. On the other hand, the provoke touch of silver is a fantastic budget buy. You can buy it for under £3 at any local drugstore. This is definitely my most highly rated drugstore purple shampoo.

My hair once bleached & toned, then using Provoke purple shampoo.

Have you ever tried any purple shampoos? Which is your favourite?
