COLOUR CO-ORDINATING YOUR WARDROBE

Quite a while ago I was got fed up with the way that my wardrobe looked. This is probably because it is now all on display (since I technically have a rail form the beloved IKEA rather than a proper closet.) This enthused me to change the order scheme in my wardrobe since it had always been dresses with dresses, shirts with shirts, jeans with other jeans and so on.

My love for co-ordination assisted in the decision that a colour spectrum was definitely the way to go and now I have a beautiful rainbow displayed on my clothing rail.

First one is to remove everything from your wardrobe, at this point you may want to give it a quick clean if it hasn't been done in awhile. Next is to have a purge through your clothes. Be tough with yourself. Have you worn this item in the last 1-2 years? Does x item fit? If not, how long has it not fitted. This the is a tough part however, you will be surprised to find things that you could sell on eBay or depop, or do a good deed and send it off to a charity shop. This part can also be fun if you find an outfit you had forgotten about and have a good idea of new ways to style it. Then you should sort everything into separate colours.

The following is how I chose to organise my own, you may play around with the finer details to suit yourself and your closet. Firstly I decided that I wanted to separate the tones from the colours, I started off with the largest part of my wardrobe - the black section! Then the greys to the whites, and finally I finished this part of the wardrobe with the monochrome black and white patterns.
I then choose to start with the closest colour to white which is yellow - orange - red - pink - purple - blue - light blue - light green - dark green - beige/brown. I was overall pleased with this order. Within each section I decided to order my clothing further dresses - tops - skirts and other bottoms.

I was quite happy with the result. It made my wardrobe look a lot tidier and prettier to look at. The final step which I am still working on is matching hangers throughout the rail. I have chosen thin black velvet non-slip hangers as it creates more room.

Go on, do this at home and you'll have a beautiful well-laid out wardrobe that you'll love. No more mixed up mess where you can't find that particular outfit you were just dying to wear.
