LUSH REVIEW: CACA MARRON HENNA DYE

Hair Background: (You may skip this part, however, to understand my hair history read on)Since I was around 13 I started dyeing my hair. At first it was semi-permanent reds, and purples and then it went to permanent coppers and all sorts.  After that I started to bleach it too, I went ash blonde for a while then all sorts of bright colours until my hair fried when I was around 16, so I was forced to my hair colouring addiction for a while.
Once my hair recovered I pretty much went back to my old ways, I tried out every colour of the rainbow. Then in the summer of last year I decided that since I was moving out and most likely job hunting, I should go a more natural colour. This lasted me for a few months, however, I was still bleaching the ends of my hair for a more ombre effect. I soon grew bored of the brown to blonde ombre. So for about 3-4 months I had what I called my tequila sunrise hair - a red to orange/copper to blonde ombre. This meant at the beginning of 2014 I thought I should try something new and willingly go back to a natural brunette shade again! It took a while to get the red out my hair, but eventually I had a medium shade of brown with caramel highlights. Unfortunately, this soon went blonde in the sun with my pre-bleached hair underneath. This led me to the decision to give my hair a proper break and try henna dye, and after looking at many reviews I decided to give lush’s caca marron a try.

Henna Dye Process:
The first picture below was the colour of my hair before any henna dye had ever touched my hair.

As you can see there were some brassy tones of blonde coming through at the ends of my hair.

I cut up off 3 cubes of the caca marron bar and poured it into boiling water. Immediately earthy aromas arose from the dye mix - I would describe it most like a mixture of fresh coffee beans and lemon black tea. I know many people have complained about the smell but I thought it actually smelt oddly nice?
I dissolved the cubes in the boiling water until it made a mixture which basically closely resembled shit! To be fair, this only lives up to the henna dye’s name ‘caca marron’ which is translated as brown shit in French or Spanish hahaha.

Anyway, I applied the henna to my hair whilst the henna mixture was still hot. (I did this over the sink to avoid staining any carpet etc in the flat, then cleaned it up once I finished the with the application). Then I covered my head in clingfilm and waited for the henna to do its thing.

I kept having to wipe up green liquid running down from my hairline, which I did not panic too much over as many other reviews of the product I had read prior had mentioned that this might happen.

Then after 4 hours and a quite a lot of time in the shower spent rinsing all the grit out my hair voila! Beautiful shiny hair that shines auburn in the light, and my highlights have gone a lovely copper colour :)

My thoughts on the product:
My hair had not felt this soft and strong in literal years, and since the product is a henna dye this forces me to accept that I won’t be able to chemically dye my hair for awhile! The smell of the henna is strangely nice, however, the wait to rinse my hair was quite long. This can be tackled in future by planning out things to do for 4 hours when I next dye my hair. The grit took a while to rinse out my hair, but it slide out better once I started shampooing and conditioning my hair with my Aussie miracle moist.  I will definitely be staying on the henna dying hippie wagon for a while to give my hair a good rest from harsh chemicals.
Note: I copied this review from my Tumblr from the end of May, and since then I have used lush henna twice more. My most recent mixture was 3 cubes of Caca Maroon: 1 cube Caca Brun with a spoonful of ground coffee. My hair has managed to stay soft all summer in spite of the sun.

CHANEL ROUGE ALLURE PIRATE LIPSTICK

I am quite a big fan of a red lip and I now have quite a few shades in my small lipstick collection, so on my worldly travels whilst in duty-free I decided to treat myself to a more expensive brand. I choose Chanel Rouge Allure in the shade Pirate (no.99). The RRP seems to be around £26.00 however since I bought it in duty-free it was marginally cheaper.  It has a lovely blue undertone so I would suggest a swatch test before buying it personally.
